Andy Warhol Inscribed Green Pea Soup Can Button.
New York: 1962. Pin-back button printed with a Campbell's Green Pea Soup Can (Ferus type), signed "Andy" and further inscribed "to Henry," with the original red printed "Andy Warhol" ribbon hanging below, overall 6 x 2 1/2 inches (15 x 6.5 cm); presented in a shadow box frame. Slight smudge to "A" in Andy, a very well preserved example overall.

Provenance: Henry Geldzahler

Andy Warhol first met curator Henry Geldzahler in 1960. These buttons were prepared by Geldzahler and handed out to visitors of Warhol's first solo show at Eleanor Ward's Stable Gallery, on East 74th Street in Manhattan. This button was acquired by the current consignor from the Southampton home of Henry Geldzahler following his death in 1994. The buttons are recorded in the Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings and Sculpture, Volume 1, Fig. 41, p. 076
