Carroll Cloar -- A World Auction Record

Determined bidders drove The Overflow from 1968 by Caroll Cloar (1913-1993) far over its estimate of $30,000-50,000 to achieve a stunning $138,600 – A World Auction Record for the Artist. The work far surpassed the prior World Auction Record for the Artist of $88,200, which was achieved at Doyle on May 21, 2021.

Bringing Surrealism to the American South, Cloar left his farming family in Arkansas to study at New York’s Art Student’s League, later joining the prestigious Downtown Gallery roster. The Overflow features Cloar’s unique balance of American realism and whimsical folklore.

Lois Dodd -- A World Auction Record

Large Morning Woods from 1978 by Lois Dodd soared past its estimate of $20,000-40,000 to realize $100,800 – A World Auction Record for the Artist. The Cooper Union grad helped found New York's Tanager Gallery, which was key to the famed 10th Street scene of galleries and artist run spaces. Along with Fairfield Porter, Alex Katz and others, Dodd relocated to Maine, where she explored and documented the coast and countryside in her work.

Nancy Ivers -- A World Auction Record

Nancy Ivers’ resin sculpture Embrace from 2021 estimated at $20,000-25,000 sold for $34,650 – A World Auction Record for the Artist. An abstract painter and sculptor, Ivers' work is informed by motion and color. With her dynamic sculptures, Ivers renders abstract forms with dimension and dynamic movement.

With competitive international bidding, the sale totaled a successful $2,375,438, near the top of its $1,567,000-2,474,000 estimate, with 85% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.
