Chinese Export Silver Tea Caddy
Lee Ching, Hong Kong, Canton & Shanghai, late 19th century, artisan's mark of Quan
Rectangular with canted corners, the body with figural panels, the hinged cover with figural scene centering an engraved heraldic crest, opening to two hinged compartments, all raised on winged masked feet. Height 5 inches, length 7 inches, approximately 80 ounces.

Provenance: Ralph M. Chait Galleries, New York

The artisan Quan was a silversmith working in Canton between 1860-1900 and is regarded as the finest maker of silver boxes and tea caddies. Double tea caddies of this size are rare and this piece may have been a bespoke order.
