ANGEL, MARIE Syringia Vulgaris x Glory of Hortenstein.
Botanical drawing on vellum, inscribed "Angel pinxit 1958." Housed in a leather-backed slipcase and chemise. 17 3/4 x 12 3/8 inches; a single sheet of vellum, the drawing of a spray of white and purple lilac rendered in watercolor and ink over graphite, elegantly lettered. Fine.

Highly regarded for her calligraphy and illumination, Angel was also a skilled botanical illustrator, and The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation owns (and has exhibited) several of her watercolors.
