"Surveyed May 1824 / Danl. Ewen / Thos. R. Ludlam" and "Surveyed March / 21st 1831 according / to these dimensions / E. S." Manuscript map in ink on two sheets of joined paper, hand colored, central fold, old linen backing. 16 x 39 1/2 inches (41 x 100.75 cm) Lightly toned and dust-soiled, a few pale spots, one sheet of paper starting to lift off of the other at the top of the sheet, small marginal chips and cracks, linen fraying at edges, pencil annotations to recto, ink annotations and stamps to backing.
An attractively drawn survey showing the division of John Rogers' property among his three heirs. The map focuses on the area stretching from Tenth to Fourteenth Streets around Sixth Avenue. Tenth street is here shown as perpendicular to the avenue, and would change orientation at a later date. Edwin Smith has included a small survey of a subdivision of one of the properties included in the map, dated 1831.
