[MAP - UPPER MANHATTAN] HOLMES, J. B. and CHARLES J. HUNT. Map of Property in Harlem Formerly Belonging to the Bowers, Moore, Smedes, Benson, Bussing and Other Estates. Showing the Topography, Old Roads, Lanes &c. as they existed 100 Years Ago and the Present.
[New York]: Charles J. Hunt, 1887. Lithographed map, hand colored, backed with linen, silk border. 27 x 34 3/4 inches (69.75 x 88.5 cm). Lightly toned, marginal tears and a few small losses not effecting the printed area, faint creasing, losses to silk border, dampstain along bottom edge, remnants of pasted paper label, small hole with inset metal eye for hanging.

A separately published cadastral map of Washington Heights, showing the area from 173rd to 185th streets. The map juxtaposes the city as is was in 1887, showing the modern streets and a few areas segmented into smaller lots for development, with the farmland of the 1780's, including old farm property lines, topographic details, waterways, roads and buildings, such as the Revolutionary War era Fort Washington. The text below the map contains information about the ownership history of ten large plots of farmland that make up the area. Rare - we locate only two copies of the map on worldcat (NYPL, University of Wisconsin).
