[ROWLANDSON, THOMAS] Two Watercolors.
[Artillerymen]. 10 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches (26.75 x 21.25 cm); ink and watercolor with traces of graphite on wove paper. Traces of a guard to the left margin, possibly once mounted in an album; together with Market. 10 1/2 x 8 3/8 inches (26.5 x 21.5 cm); ink and watercolor with traces of graphite on thin card, signed "Rowlandson" in black ink (l.l.). Upper left corner chipped with loss, a few small spots and stains, some surface soiling. old legend on verso reading "Rowlandson/Fruiterer/Covent Garden".

Both exhibited in an exhibition of the Sosenko-Hildegaarde Collection at the de Young Museum in 1951, exhibition label for one included together with (later) correspondence confirming this.
