[MEGILLAT ESTHER] Esther scroll.
Likely Italy: early-mid 19th century. Manuscript on vellum housed on a wooden roller. 12 1/2 inches x 147 inches (34 cm x 3.7 meters) on roller 18 1/2 inches with finial; written on seven membranes, 22 lines arranged in 20 columns, written in Hebrew script, undecorated. The first membrane a later replacement, this and part of the next backed in silk, occasional tears.
The calligraphic text evidences the emphasis of the YHVH acrostic in its several locations, picked out in bolder letters.
