JAMES, EDWIN Account of an Expedition from Pittsburgh to the Rocky Mountains.
London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, 1823. First English edition. Three volumes. Contemporary calf ruled in gilt, rebacked to style with red and green morocco lettering labels, retains early endpapers. 8 1/2 x 5 inches (22 x 13 cm); half-titles in volumes II & III only, folding map, folding chart, 8 plates (3 hand-colored), one vignette in the text, 344; 356; 357 pp. Unobtrusive library stamps to verso of some titles and plates, the map backed and somewhat discolored around edges, spotting, hinge of volume I split after map, spotting to gutter and small loss to half-title of volume III, bookplates of Sir William Curtis.

The first English edition issued the same year as the Philadelphia edition. James' here chronicles the 1820 Stephen H.
