Russian Triptych Icon of the New Testament Trinity
Probably 18th century
Rectangular, with an arched top, opening to a central panel centering the Globe with the Instruments of the Passion, flanked by Christ and God the Father, above them the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, against a circular glory, with the symbols of the Evangelists at the corners, all flanked by the Mother of God and John the Baptist and with a group of angels attending from above, the side panels depicting the Mother of God and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and various saints. Height 6 3/8 inches (16.2 cm), width, opened 14 inches (35.6 cm).
