United States Postal History Group of Letters from The Rev. Elijah Richardson Craven (1824-1908)
A group of approximately one hundred and fifty pieces, following the travels of Reverend Craven from Kentucky through Washington DC and up through New Jersey and New York., during the mid to late 1800's. The collection, mostly addressed to his wife, giving details of his sermons and adventures.
Consisting of approximately forty stampless letters, eleven envelopes bearing imperforate 3 cents red, approximately ninety-two 1857-61 3 cents, with shades, and approximately twenty 1861 3 cents, with a variety of town and killer markings, a fascinating group worthy of further study, some natural handing tears or wear are noted, there are an additional fifty or so heavily defective pieces included for content only use, Good to Very Fine.
