NEW YORK, NY -- Determined bidders drove exceptional prices at Doyle's popular Doyle+Design auction on March 15, 2023. This highly-anticipated sale showcased a wide range of Modern and Contemporary furniture, art, silver and design by prominent designers, makers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte
Highlighting the sale was an iconic Dahlia chandelier by French-born designer Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte that achieved $47,250, far surpassing its estimate of $20,000-30,000. The chandelier was from a group of futuristic lighting by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte from the Estate of a Miami Collector. Read an essay by Specialist Roger Ward.

Karl Springer
Also performing far over expectations was a group of over fifty lots of furniture and design by Karl Springer from the Estate of a Park Avenue Lady. Among the top lots were a set of four table lamps covered in Springer's signature shagreen that soared over their estimate to a stunning $13,860, and a pen shell veneered desk that realized an equally exceptional $12,600. In all, the Karl Springer pieces in the sale totaled an outstanding $171,549, almost doubling the estimate range of $56,700-$90,900 with an impressive 98% sold. Burhan Dogancay
Topping the fine art offerings was the watercolor Western Heart from 1973 by Turkish/American artist Burhan Dogancay that achieved $18,900, more than doubling its $6,000-9,000 estimate. Dogancay developed a fascination with the ever-changing nature of urban walls throughout New York City. Like French artist Jacques Villegle, Dogancay took great inspiration from the layers of torn and overlapping the posters and advertisements pasted across the walls of construction sites in Manhattan. With Western Heart, Dogancay creates abstracted images sourced from the detritus of the city.
