DEMACHY, ROBERT (1859-1936) Portrait of a Woman,
circa 1910. Gum bichromate print on thin card, 4 1/2 x 5 3/8 inches (115 x 135 mm), signed with Demachy's monogram in ink (l.r.), accompanied by a paper fragment with monogram in the negative. Traces of an old mount on the verso of the print, a few faint marks apparently in the print.

This unique example was offered by Christie's, December 4, 1996.

Provenance: Christie's East, Photographs, December 4, 1996, to Norma and Martin Stevens. Norma Stevens represented Richard Avedon for thirty years, and her husband Martin (d. 2016) was an art and creative director for Revlon and other agencies.
