Lot 587
MOON, SARAH (b. 1941) [Untitled, from "Charlie Girl" series,
1971], likely early 1980s. Toned gelatin silver print, 8 11/16 x 12 1/8 inches (222 x 328 mm), signed "Sarah Moon" in pencil on image recto (l.r.). No defects noted in raking light. Old paper hinges on rear.

This image appeared in Nova magazine in 1971 to accompany an article "Hey There ... Charlie Girl" by the fashion editor Caroline Baker. Martin Stevens indicated that this print was a gift from Sarah Moon in 1982, and that it was reproduced in a 1981 book of Sarah Moon's work published by her husband Robert Delpire. This print was exhibited at the 2018 Getty Museum exhibition Icons of Style: A Century of Fashion Photography, see 153 in the accompanying book.

Norma Stevens represented Richard Avedon for thirty years, and her husband Martin (d. 2016) was an art and creative director for Revlon and other agencies.
