Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Majolica Two-Handled Oval 'Grape' Basket-Form Bread Tray
Date code for KXK for 1881
Modeled as a scalloped stave basket with vine handles and leafy terminals, the elongated hexagonal textured reserves enriched in brown, impressed uppercase mark, red painted pattern no. 811 and E, width 11 3/4 inches; Together with a Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Majolica Turquoise and Gray Ground Chrysanthemum Fruit Tray; date code XYL for 1882, of scalloped oval form, the oval yellow lined turquoise center radiating chrysanthemum blossoming stems in white, burgundy and yellow divided by trellis staves, yellow line rim, impressed uppercase mark and indistinct registry diamond, puce pattern no. 3272/.O, width 13 1/2 inches, depth 9 1/8 inches; Together with a Griffen, Smith & Hill Etruscan Majolica Pink and Green Ground Oak Leaf Molded Oval Bowl. Circa 1880, molded in relief with oak branches and acorns, impressed GSH monogram mark and Etruscan Majolica medallion mark, faint black printed 83, width 12 1/4 inches, depth 9 3/4 inches.
Note (Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Majolica Two-Handled Oval 'Grape' Basket-Form Bread Tray): An historic Staffordshire form, saltglazed and buff earthenware examples, circa 1760, are known. As well as porcelain models produced at both the Chelsea and Worcester factories.
