Joseph Holdcroft Majolica Water Lily Umbrella or Stick Stand
Circa 1880
Cylindrical, naturalistically molded with pond lilies, broad fronds, and ferns, on a stepped brown circular foot, impressed uppercase mark J. Holdcroft, 2, and blue painted Ll, height 21 3/4 inches; Together with a Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Majolica Brown-Ground Bramble Flower-Pot. Date code AWV for 1867, modeled by Joseph Birks, molded with blackberry briar, the branch feet with oak leaf terminals, impressed uppercase mark and registry diamond 18-X-G-1 for 1868, blue painted 7. Height 12 1/2 inches.

Joseph Birks was recorded at Wedgwood from 1867-1875.

Umbrella stand: professional restoration, including to a section of the large leaf tip area at the top and corresponding area that extends down the body; blacklighted
