Joseph Holdcroft Majolica Agateware Shell-Shaped Dish
Circa 1880
Molded as a giant clam shell splashed in green and dark brown glazes and balanced on three ochre whelk feet, impressed uppercase mark J. Holdcroft and painted 71, length overall 11 inches; Together with a Minton Majolica Faux-Malachite Ground Ewer. Shape no. 596, date cypher for 1862, of bottle form, the neck and shoulder applied with a rope twist handle, impressed uppercase mark, height 10 1/4 inches.
Note (Joseph Holdcroft Agateware Shell-Shaped Dish): The Holdcroft model is a close variation of a model produced by George Jones.
