Pair of Mintons Majolica Cockerel and Hen Flower Holders
Shape no.'s 1982 and 1983, both with date cyphers for 1876
Naturalistically modeled strutting beside an open wooden planter, the brown and ochre banded base applied with foliage, impressed uppercase marks and shape no.'s, signed J. Hénk in the mold. Heights 13 3/4 inches and 14 3/8 inches, respectively.
Johann (John) Hasselmann Hénk (1846-1914), son of Christian Hénk, joined the Minton firm in 1859 as an apprentice. He was to become Minton's Chief Staff modeler, specializing in majolica animals and figures.
