Minton Majolica Turquoise-Ground Butterfly Plate
Designed by William S. Coleman, shape no. 1545, date cypher for 1870
Naturalistically modeled as an outstretched butterfly resting on a daisy blossom with radiating green leaves, impressed uppercase mark and cyphers, shape no., and black painted G. Diameter 9 3/8 inches.

William Stephen Coleman (1829-1904), English painter, illustrator and designer. In 1871, the Mintons Art Pottery Studio in Kensington Gore was established under his direction.
