English Majolica Cobalt-Blue Ground Fish and Pond Lily Sardine Box and Cover on an Integral Stand
Formerly attributed to Thomas Forester, circa 1890
Rectangular, the peaked cover with arched fish knop surrounded by blossoming pond lilies, the side with paired fish, on a conjoined stand, brown foliate rims, the underside in mottled yellow-green, signed with a brown painted P, width overall 7 3/4 inches; Together with a George Jones & Sons Majolica Pink-Ground Sardine Box, Cover and Stand. Circa 1878, rectangular, the cover molded with three fish among seaweed, the sides and stand with stiff leaf-tips, within yellow line rims, the underside mottled in browns and green, impressed monogram and crescent mark, H and 4, black painted shape no. 1871 and xx to cover and underside, width of stand 8 3/4 inches.
