Lot Details

Lot 77
A Forty-Six Star American Flag.
Circa 1907-1912. Red, white and blue linen, double stitched stripes and canton, double appliqued stars, canvas heading, two brass eyes with remnants of cotton twine. 32 3/8 x 96 1/4 inches; the stars are configured in an 8, 7, 8, 8, 7, 8 pattern. White linen and canvas heading slightly age-toned, a few small frays, but altogether an uncommonly bright example in fine condition.

The forty-six star flag was introduced after Oklahoma gained statehood on November 16, 1907. It was the official flag of the United States from July 4, 1908 to July 4, 1912. A vibrant and well-preserved example of the forty-six star flag.

Provenance:
Paula Rubenstein, New York. Purchased for the porch of the East Hampton residence.
