Moderate wear to spine ends and edges, small stain to rear board, occasional pale spotting throughout, ads with dampstain at top of gutter, Rowland Ward bookseller's label, bookplate of Jane Case Flinn; together with STIGAND, C[HAUNCEY] H[UGH]. Some rubbing and wear, bumped corners, spine lightly faded, endpapers toned, spotting to plates and adjacent leaves.
Captain Stigand, a prolific writer on subjects of African hunting, languages, travel, and geography, spent 18 years in British East Africa, Egypt, and Abyssinia in various administrative roles, enjoying a place among the foremost big game hunters of his day in those territories before his premature death at the age of 42.
