Two volumes, period boards in dark blue quarter levant with the bookseller's label of Jason Cawthorn of London. 7 5/8 x 4 7/8 inches (19.25 x 12.5 cm); xii, 272 pp.; 295 pp. folding engraved map, 2 folding sheets of music, 15 engraved plates as called for (that of Thessalonian vases not on the plate list), most hand-colored. Light wear and soiling to binding, traces of old labels to spine, occasional offsetting of text to plates. Bookplate of C. H. Butler Clarke of Ulcombe.
The French translation of an important Greek journey accomplished by a German voyager, with an interesting discussion of Greek culture and very appealing plates. Bartholody subsequently became Prussian Consul-General in Rome. Blackmer 87; Atabey 68.
