[SAILING] SKIPPER AND PASSENGER [HINE, THOMAS AVERY and CHARLES GILBERT] Log of the Totem II. 1908 ... [1916]
[Newark?: privately printed, 1908]-1916. Several are family presentation copies. Nine volumes, original printed card wrappers, yapp edges. 7 1/2 x 6 inches (19 x 15.5 cm) or larger; unpaginated, mounted frontispieces, some with original photographs with manuscript captions and borders. Some volumes quite worn, with detached wrappers etc. Sold as-is, not subject to return.
Accounts of the Hine brothers' voyages in their yacht, Totem II, detailing its construction, outfitting, and summer excursions. The trips, ranging from the Long Island Sound to Martha's Vineyard, are recounted in a suitably breezy (and often genuinely funny) style. The original photographs by the Hines which are a feature of these works are often very good; the entire family were keen amateur photographers. This is a complete run of the publications, so far as we are aware. They are individually quite rare, and a run is almost impossible to locate.
