[BIG GAME HUNTING] CARPENTER, DONALD A. Hunting Big Game in the Sierras of Chihuahua.
[Mansfield, Ohio: M.A. Pollock, 1906 (printed date is 1905, but the '5' has been manually overprinted with a '6']. First edition. Original pictorial tan paper wrappers, printed in brown and gold. 8 x 5 3/4 inches (20.5 x 15 cm); 56 pp., printed in brown ink, portrait frontispiece, 9 plates after photographs. Very minor rubbing to wrappers mostly at spine, pale spotting to endpapers, Library of Congress stamp stating "two copies received" dated 1906, small faint remnant of something once tipped-in to rear endpaper.
A rather rare and picturesque work of hunting adventures, mostly deer in the Sierras of Chihuahua, over a two-week period. The portrait frontispiece of Enrique Creel, the Governor of Chihuahua. The overprinted 1906 date, as far as we can ascertain, only appears on this copy and in the one held at the Library of Congress. Perhaps the publishers changed the date manually when they sent these two copies to the Library for copyright, so as to conform to the date that the copies were received by the library, as evidenced by the deposit stamp.
