CUSTER, GEORGE ARMSTRONG, General Envelope addressed to "Mrs. Genl. Custer", in his hand.
The envelope has two three-cent stamps affixed to the upper right. The postmark is from Washington D. C., dated December 23rd [1867?]. The envelope measures 3 x 5 inches (7.5 x 13 cm). Framed with a portrait and a brass plaque. Letter of authenticity affixed to back of frame. Light soiling and wear to the envelope, not examined out of frame.

Fort Leavenworth, Kansas was the site of General Custer's 1867 court martial for, among a litany of other offences, abandoning his post while on duty, in order to visit his beloved wife, Elizabeth. Custer was convicted on the charges and suspended from service for a year, during which time he spent a number of months living in General Sheridan's quarters at the fort.
