Lot 76
[FEDERAL DUCK STAMPS] WILLIS, ARTHUR , Jr. The Federal Duck Stamp. 1934-1953/1954-[1970s].
Two volumes, loose leaf in zippered faux leather folders, stamped in gilt with the titles above. 8 1/2 x 11 inches (28 x 21.5 cm); approximately forty-four reproductions of ducks stamps, the majority accompanied by extensive autograph letters signed by the artists regarding the preparation of the original designs for the annual Duck Stamps. These include letters by Richard Bishop, Roland Clark, Lynn Bogue Hunt, A. Lassell Ripley (three letters), Maynard Reese and many others. Light wear to folders, some letters loose.

Arthur Willis would write to the artist of each year's Federal Duck Stamp and request some information on the background of the work. The result is the present unique archive, a remarkable expression of enthusiasm on the part of Willis and of cordiality on the part of the artists.
