This work was painted for friends of the artist which he kindly asked to be his models. In a letter dated May 5th, 1999, Mr Merritt states: To the best of my recollection, this was done in 1949 or 1950, when Alice and I were sharing a house with the Wilson's on Washington Place in the Village, lots of good memories.
