Walter Strong was the owner of the Chicago Daily News. Through exposes in his newspaper he enabled the defeat of the notoriously corrupt mayor, William H. Thompson, in 1931. He was also instrumental in initiating the investigations into Al Capone. The painting hung in his home, known as 'Stronghold', in Oregon, Illinois.

Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500

Additional Notes & Condition Report

Dirty varnish. Scattered craquelure. Canvas is buckled on the stretcher. 2 inch dent with tear in upper center. There may be some scattered paint flakes in the lower right corner and lower center areas. It is difficult to determine if they are actual spots where the paint has flaked off, or, if the artist intentionally left these spots white. No apparent restoration.
