Two Japanese Satsuma Bowls
Meiji Period
Comprising one of rounded form on a low foot rim, the exterior with a band of figures in a procession above a band of scholars objects, the interior covered with butterflies, base signed Kaizan sei; and a foliate-form rim bowl, the exterior with a band of men and women seated in scholarly pursuits above a border of flowerheads, the interior with women dressing with kimono hanging on a rack below a border of natural flowers at the rim, base with seal mark reading Kaizan sei. Diameter of larger 4 1/4 inches.
