Additional Notes & Condition Report

Frame rubbing. Dirty varnish with scattered craquelure. Several old tears scattered throughout; cleaned harshly at some earlier time. Visible stretcher marks. Pin hole in the figure's right temple.

Canvas is slightly buckled, most pronounced along bottom edge. Masking varnish makes it difficult to detect restoration under UV light though a quarter sized area is visible above the man's left eye (this inpainting is also visible in raking light). There is also inpainting corresponding to what appears to be an old tear or abrasion in the left area of the figure's head. This inpainting is roughly 4 inches length with the area also visible in raking light. Few other minor areas of inpainting scattered throughout.
