Him: Frame rubbing. Wax-lined. Scattered cracquelure throughout, particularly in the face. Faintly visible stretcher marks along upper edge. Older and newer restoration thoughout; including areas in the man's face, as well as two larger areas near his right hand and possibly an L-shaped repaired tear in his left arm.

Her: Frame rubbing. Wax-lined. Areas of older and newer restoration throughout. Scattered inpaint, concentrated particularly in the face, lace collar and brooch. Possible earlier restoration surrounding hand at lower right. Two inverted-L shaped repaired tears: one at upper left: 7" from upper edge, 5" from left edge; another in red scarf 8" from lower edge, 10" from right edge. A third repair in area of brooch. Possible water stains at lower right.
