Additional Notes & Condition Report
This painting has been extensively restored and overpainted. The background was overpainted in the early restoration, as were the lower 4 inches of the canvas, including the subject's left hand. The costume has been overcleaned and repainted, as has the sitter's hair and neck. Numerous areas of inpaint throughout the face and lace collar camouflage the craquelure, but these aspects of the painting remain truest to the artist's original conception.
Inscribed on the stretcher "Restored 1927." Glue relined. Heavy craquelure throughout, and bitumen damage. Canvas is backed with a panel within the stretcher.
