This fluid self-portrait was painted by F. Luis Mora while he was still a student. The year it was painted, he completed his studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Returning to his family home in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he enrolled at the Art Students League where he studied with H. Siddons Mowbray and met Kenyon Cox and William Merritt Chase.

Lined onto new stretchers (canvas appears to have been trimmed in the process). Frame rubbing. Scattered inpainting, most pronounced at upper left quadrant and across figure's brow. Two possible repaired tears including a 1 1/2'' x 1'' area to the right of the figure and a 1 x 1'' area below his paint brushes.
