Circa 1870
Each of ovoid form, with wreath-form handles, decorated with portrait medallions representing the four continents on puce and lilac beaded reserves, with intertwined olive branches tied by ribbon knots against a turquoise ground, on a fluted stepped circular base, one impressed MINTONS and shape no. 1389. Height of taller 19 inches

These jardinieres were made in graduated heights, the present pair being the largest size, and were available with either a turquoise or cobalt glaze.

on very close inspection, it is evident each has some restoration and overpainting; some minor, superficial scuffing and discoloration; one with restoration and overpainting to the base at the center, both, on the interior and exterior side; one with two thin hairline cracks and a firing line; neither jardiniere has been blacklighted
