[QUEEN VICTORIA] The Principal Speeches and Addresses of his Royal Highness the Prince Consort.

First edition, in the presentation binding reserved for Palace use, with a full-page inscription on the front blank, by Queen Victoria to Sir Charles Eastlake (dated January 9 1863). Original white pebbled cloth with the crest of the Prince Consort in gilt, housed in a clamshell case. 8 3/4 inches (22 cm); frontispiece, 268 pp. Light soiling to binding, the catch of the case defective, overall a very sound copy.
The recipient, Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, was a painter and the first President of the Photographic Society. The inscription reads "To Sir Charles Eastlake, who was for so many years associated with the great and good Prince, from the beloved Prince's Brokenhearted Widow Victoria R." Accompanying the book is a note from the Queen's secretary, Augusta Bruce, pertaining to the gift.
