Original publisher's pale blue cloth, all edges gilt. 9 1/8 x 6 1/4 inches (24 x 16.5 cm); ([4], 317 pp., illustrated by Sidney Paget. Cloth a bit soiled, minor lifting on front cover, within hinges with some slight cracking, sporadic finger soiling; Together with The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. London: George Newnes, 1894. First edition, first issue, the front cover panel lacking the Southampton Street sign, with the peacock endpapers. Original publisher's dark blue cloth, all edges gilt. 9 1/8 x 6 1/4 inches (24 x 16.5 cm); iv, 279 pp., illustrated by Sidney Paget. Very minor wear to cloth, within evidence of old restoration to hinges, small marginal tear with loss to the contents leaf, occasional minor spotting.
In all a decent set of the first book editions in their earliest issues (preceded by the Strand Magazine publication) of the classic Holmes short stories, up to the Reichenbach Falls episode. DeWaal. Green and Gibson [A10a], [A14a].
