[CALIFORNIA PHOTOGRAPHY] KNEELAND, SAMUEL. The Wonders of Yosemite Valley and California.
. Boston: Alexander Moore, 1871. First edition. Original publisher's cloth decorated in gilt and blind. 10 3/8 x 6 3/4 inches (26.5 x 17 cm); 71 pp, with ten mounted original albumen prints attributed to John P. Soule, retaining the tissue guards. Some wear to the covers, but a sound copy, internally with a little nominal foxing to the text, but quite fresh. A significant early guide book to the Yosemite Valley by a professor of Zoology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Though John Soule is credited with the photographs on the title, it is believed that he purchased the negatives, with Martin Mason Hazeltine now considered the most likely source.
