Fine Tibetan Gilt-Copper Alloy Torso of Buddha 13th/14th Century

The shoulder and left arm of the Buddha are covered with a monastic robe, indicated only as an elaborate hem with a double row of beading between which runs a line of undulating foliage. One corner of the robe falls over the left shoulder blade and at the corner is a large mandala-form patch; from the inside of the long part of the robe trails a sash which falls in low pleats at the shoulder. The eyebrows and lips are indicated by low ridges in the surface and the eyes are worked with sharp edges on the outlines; metal stand. Height 12 3/4 inches (32.4 cm).
