Rare Thai Terra Cotta Figure of Buddha
Circa 13th century
The clinging garments are rendered by showing only the hems which cling to the outline of the legs and fan out on either side. The face is deeply spatula-cut with recessed features, uplifted mouth and penetrating eyes; the towering coif is rendered by individually molded hair curls and terminated in a simplified usnisa. Height 37 inches (94 cm).
