[BOOKPLATE] Ex-libris of Hector Poemer.
. Woodcut, dated 1525 in the plate on the lower edge, together with the initials R.A. (Hieronymous Andrae Resch). Sheet size 11 3/8 x 7 1/2 inches (289 x 189 mm), printed on contemporary laid paper, with hairline margins. Generally clean, a few old pencil marks on corner.
An extremely early ex-libris, prepared for Hector Poemer, who was a Provost of the Church of St. Laurence in Nuremberg (St. Laurence stands in the right foreground, holding the gridiron of his martyrdom). Much of the rest of the design is occupied by Poemer's armorial. It is a remarkable design, which was once ascribed to Durer by Bartsch, and later to Hans Sebal Behaim by Pauli. Current scholarship suggests that the design is, after all, by Durer, executed by Resch after a drawing.
