First edition, Tooley's first issue with the "Convict Hulks" vignette in the first series of plates. 20th century three-quarters morocco with leather titling-piece on upper cover, marbled endpapers. 10 1/2 x 17 3/4 inches (27 x 45 cm); 32 pp. text (including title and advertisement), 24 soft ground etchings, 16 uncolored aquatints, and sixteen hand-colored plates on gray backgrounds. Minor crease to title, some toning to the edges of the uncolored plates.
One of the best of the early drawing books, quite scarce in the first issue. Abbey Life 115.
