Full turquoise crushed morocco gilt by Riviere, the covers with a plain central lozenge outlined by small tools, surrounded by a seme of small sword-shaped tools, within two broadly spaced fillets, with filigree cornerpieces; the spine in six compartments, titled in the second and with author in the third, dated at the foot; dentelles similarly tooled with double fillets and cornerpieces, moire silk paste-downs and endsheets. 8 1/4 x 5 1/8 inches (21.5 x 13 cm); half-title, xii, 60 pp. Minute wear to extremities, but a very attractive binding, the Willis Vickery copy with his bookplate, a very clean copy internally.
Shelley's last book before his untimely death the same year celebrates the Greek Proclamation of Independence from the Ottoman Empire, a cause that was strongly championed by the Romantic poets. Tinker 1902; Granniss pp. 73-76.
