Pen and ink drawing on paper (a sheet imprinted with the logo of the Cafe Haussmann on the verso), 12 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches (32 x 24 cm), signed ("Jean") with a presentation inscription by Jean Cocteau to Cecil Beaton (l.r.), titled in his hand at the head, dated 1934-35. Some lightstain, matted and framed.
Cocteau's play Oedipe-roi. Les Chevaliers de la Table ronde premiered at the Theatre Antoine in 1937. Cocteau used the rather fine paper from Cafe Haussmann menus in other works of this period.
