. Florence: [Arena Goldoni], 1908-1929. Fifteen volumes, bound in publisher's hand-lettered half vellum, gray paper sides, original wrappers bound-in. 12 5/8 x 8 1/2 inches (31 x 21 cm) and smaller; illustrations throughout, including many fine woodcuts by Edward Gordon Craig. Some light binding wear, very minor staining in the first volume, occasional toning and foxing, in general a good run, apparently complete but sold as a periodical, not subject to return.
This remarkable publication, one of the preeminent modernist magazines of the period, was edited (and with many contributions, both under his own name and pseudonymously by Edward Gordon Craig). It also has contributions by many other eminent figures of the period, including W. B. Yeats (volume V, The Hour Glass), Ananda Coomaraswamy, etc. etc. Complete runs are very uncommon. The collective titles of the first three volumes are dated 1919, but the parts wrappers bear the correct dates. Also included in the lot is A Living Theatre, Florence 1913, a very scarce Craig pamphlet (crudely rebacked).
