. London: J. Almon, 1765. Stated second edition, this the copy of the great Americanist George Bancroft, with his signature in the possessive ("James Bancroft's") on the title. Unbound, stab-stitched with [LIND, JAMES]. An Answer to the Declaration of the American Congress. London: T. Cadell, J. Walter and T. Sewell, 1776. Probable first published edition (five editions were printed this year, and the later editions are stated second-fifth), also the copy of George Bancroft, with his signature on the title. 8 x 5 1/4 inches (20 x 13 cm); the first work [2], 52 pp.; the second 132 pp., including half-title. Residue of pamphlet binding on back, Bar Association stamps, a few minor annotations.
The second work is an important point-by-point rebuttal to the Declaration by Jeremy Bentham's friend James Lind. Howes L349.
