... Provincie Carinthie i.e. Klagenfurt: George Kramer, 1661. Early yapped vellum, old paper label on spine. 4 7/8 x 3 inches (12.5 x 7 cm); engraved title, [12], 401, [25] pp., with 6 folded leaves of plates at rear showing observational detail of the comet. There is a stub of a plate, apparently emblematic, opposite p. 360, however all the (very limited) information we can establish on this work calls for the six folding astronomical plates only, and this may have been added by the original owner. 19th century bookplate on endpaper, inscription of an Augsburg Jesuit order on reverse of engraved title.
An exceedingly rare work on the 1661 comet (likely Comet Ikeya-Zhang, last apparition 2002), published in what is now lower Austria. We trace only three records via OCLC, COPAC etc, with two copies in Slovenia and one at the Linda Hall Library in Missouri. This is an interesting work, with extensive critiques of the work of Tycho Brahe etc.
