Lot Details
Lot 228
... Mainz: B. Schott Soehne, [1823?]. Full red diced morocco gilt with the ticket of H. Fritsch of Berlin, covers with a central onlaid green oval with a crowned W (probably Frederick William III of Prussia, Blum's patron), surrounded by ruled rays, surrounded by a broad ornate roll of palm and acanthus, spine in five compartments with an unusual series of geometric motifs, palmate roll on dentelles, green silk endsheets, all edges gilt. 12 1/2 x 9 3/8 inches (32 x 24 cm); viii, 363 pp., the title and scenery for the three scenes lithographed, text otherwise engraved. Some rubbing and wear to extremities, but in all an extremely attractive and rather unusual binding.
A very attractive royal binding of the period, despite some minor wear. The text conforms with the edition in the Bavarian State Library, dated by them 1823, although this copy does not have the two dedication leaves present in that copy.
