. Vintage gelatin silver print, signed "Karsh" (l.l.) and stamped and numbered in pencil on the verso "No. 33, Karsh, Ottawa." 9 3/8 x 7 1/2 inches (29 x 19 cm). Stains and thumbsoiling to margins which are mostly covered by the matting, a few scratches to surface.
An iconic image, vintage prints of this dynamic portrait of then Senator John Kennedy and the future First Lady are rare on the market. In the portrait, both Kennedys exude the forward-thinking confidence that they brought to the White House in 1961. This image is often wrongly attributed to 1960, when Karsh again photographed Kennedy as President-elect, but it actually dates from Kennedy's first term as a Massachusetts Senator and thus is much rarer than those later prints.
