Pavel Tchelitchew Drawings, ed. Lincoln Kirstein, New York, 1947, pl.13
Drawn in the winter of 1931 at Tchelitchew's studio in Paris, this sheet is an independent work and not a study for a painting.
The group of drawings which follows, by the Russian/American artist Pavel Tchelitchew, was formerly in the collection of Zosya Kochanski, wife of a Polish violinist and friend of the artist since 1918, when they met in Kiev. Tchelitchew's first large canvas, painted in 1919, was a portrait of Madame Kochanski.
The drawings include portrait heads of Zosya Kochanski, studies for Hide and Seek (The Museum of Modern Art, New York) and costume designs for ballet and theatre, most with dedications to his close friend.
